eventful night

Seth woke up yesterday morning with a bit of a runny nose. He didn't act sick or bothered all day, just had to constantly wipe his poor little nose. He ran around and had fun with all of our friends over last night, and he went to bed just fine.

He figured out how to get into the shower all by himself and turn on the water...

Fast forward a few hours to us hearing Seth wake up screaming and crying. "Mommy!" and eventually "down" and "Dad." We didn't know if he just woke up because of a dream or something, and if that was so, we have learned that going in there does not help him get back to sleep quickly. But with the thought of his runny nose and being able to hear him all congested, Kevin said he'd go in and check on him. Two seconds later they are in the hallway and Kevin said something about getting me, and while I was waiting for him to walk in the room, I hear a huge splatter. Poor kid threw up all over the hallway. And apparently what woke him up was that he had puked in his bed too. He smelled awful and was all out of sorts. I took him into the bathroom to run a bath to wash him, but before we even got to the tub he threw up on me and in my hair. So we got cleaned up together.

Seth seemed much better and just after we got him all clean and in a new diaper, he puked again all over the bathroom. He had just settled down, too, and was talking and acting normal. Obviously no one likes to be sick, but we could tell with the last puke that it wasn't the flu bug (I asked Kevin if he thought it was H1N1 because people here have had it and they say it's supposed to be bad here this fall). He wasn't running a temperature and after looking at all the puke, it was mainly everything from his nose that had drained down the throat. Poor kiddo!

We made sure to give him some crackers and an electrolyte drink thing before putting him back down about an hour or so later. He was happy and talking and feeling much better. Although he would have rather stayed up with us and not gone to bed, he did fall back asleep without another incident. He woke up happy, and although still has a little congestion, he has wanted to eat and play and everything.

The couple times Seth has vomited in his life, it has always been preceeded by a runny nose, and he always vomits up that stuff, never food, so I haven't been too concerned. I am incredibly grateful for a very healthy kid and pray the next one is as well.
